Escape From Syria

Written by Samya Kullab, Jackie Roche and Mike Freiheit.
Published in 2017 by Firefly Book.

Escape from Syria is a fictionalized account that calls on real-life circumstances and true tales of refugee families to serve as a microcosm of the Syrian uprising and the war and refugee crisis that followed. The story spans six years in the lives of Walid, his wife Dalia, and their two children, Amina and Youssef. Forced to flee from Syria, they become asylum-seekers in Lebanon, and finally resettled refugees in the West. It is a story that has been replayed thousands of times by other families.

    Escape from Syria~~~~~
Escape from Syria is a book about a girl’s family living in Syria, during war and how they made their escape from Syria. I like this book because it shows what is going on in our world right now and how lucky we are to be free. It is very interesting. Although this book is really fascinating and explains what the author is trying to say really well, it may be a little violent for others; so if you do not like bloody images or images of hurt people I do not recommend this book for you. You have been warned. Personally I’m fine with it and would definitely like to read more books by Samya Kullab, Jackie Roche and Mike Freiheit. ^-^

This book was great mostly because it was based on the true story of Syria and the Russians at war. it’s a sad story when you have read it, but when you really think about it you will find out that there are a lot of people who survived.

Definitely a great sotry, What is astonishal is that this isnt fiction. Millions of families have lived through lives like this in syria in the last decade. Makes me thing of how fortunate we are to have all of this, To have a great country and to have rights. This book definitely got to me, and made me realise why there are so many immigrants coming from these countries. Definitely five stars for sure.

I highly recommend this graphic novel about Syrian refugees, written by a journalist based out of Lebanon. The art is emotionally touching and conveys the family unit’s struggles and hopes well. I loved that this took such a heavy situation and broke it down in a way that was easy to follow. It was short, but it wastes no pages: it was so informative and enlightening. It touched upon some things I knew, but best of all it taught me a lot of new information.

I loved the book, it was so sad but kind of happy at the same time. Also very interesting.

This book did something well by presenting something that normal kids would see as boring, history, and presenting it in a format that everyone can pick up and enjoy. A 4.5/5 star book in my opinion.

    Summary
In 2013, theirs was a comfortable life, the entire extended family living in a three-story house in Aleppo. “No one ever thought a war would come to Syria. However, the ruling al-Assad family, which seized power in a military coup in 1970, turned Syria into a one-party state, suppressing basic democratic freedoms, and punishing opposition or criticism of the regime with arrest, torture, and often, death. Syrians lived in fear, and, as economic conditions worsened under the Assad regime, public anger grew. In 2011, perhaps inspired by the “Arab Spring” uprisings, a group of young men spray-painted a wall with the slogan, “The people want the regime to fall.

    My Opinion

I like this book because it tells a true story in fictional eyes. In other words, I mean that it is a fantasy story that was based on a BIG important conflict in the world that is real-life. I also like it because it is a comic. I like comics because they have pictures. Because of this, I think that the author is creative.

    Conclusion

I would recommend Escape From Syria to all young readers because first of all, this book let us know of a major event that happened long ago but is still a minor problem today.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know about the trauma that Syrians might feel because of the ongoing war. The Syrian who is focused on goes by the name, Amina. Amina is a perseverant heroine who I love incredibly because of her immense amount of determination. I’d love to be her friend!

Review #2 For Escape From Syria
    By Jocelyn

Escape From Syria is about a girl and her family having to leave Syria because of the war. They move to a different place but they can only stay there for six months. Her family doesn’t have enough money so her dad leaves to find a job. Her friend Mona who is thirteen years old is getting married for her safety so her mom wants her to get married to. Life for them is very difficult.
Escape From Syria is an awesome book. I loved this book because it tells about a lot of people’s stories and what it was like for them during the war. I also liked how the book was very interesting and that there are facts at the end of the book. My favorite part of the book was when they got a new home.
You should read Escape From Syria. I think you will love this book. If you don’t like violence you probably won’t like this book because there is blood shed in the pictures. Please try reading Escape From Syria by Samya Kullab.

Escape from Syria is a book about a girl’s family living in Syria, during a war and how they made their escape from Syria. this book explains what the book is happening so it puts images to your brain, it is pretty interesting to read and it is really exciting, it makes you guess what will happen next. Although this book is really fascinating and interesting, well, it may be a little violent for others; so if you do not like bloody images or images of hurt people I do not recommend this book for you. Remember I warned you! I liked this book so I hope you will read it too.
