Hello. I’m Alice Chase. It is my honor and pleasure to announce the creation of a new Canadian children’s book award. This award was created by the Rocky Mountain Book Award organization to honor my late husband Richard Chase. This award will be called the Richard Allen Chase Memorial Reward.
A rocky mountain book award statement reads as follows:
In memory of Richard Chase, an unsung hero of Canadian children’s literature and an outstanding human being. Richard had a matchless capacity to see the good in everyone he encountered. He was the heart and soul of the Rocky Mountain Book Award for 20 years. This labor of love was all done in the name of introducing young people to exemplary Canadian children’s literature. Richard will live on in the hearts of readers, including those who don’t even know his name, due to his tireless work bringing great Canadian books into the lives of young readers, parents, educators, and librarians. In this spirit, one title from each nominating year following the rocky mountain book awards selection criteria, will be awarded the Richard Allen Chase Memorial Award.
The first time winner of this award goes to On The Line by Paul Coccia and Eric Walters. Congratulations to Paul and Eric!
