Speaking Our Truth: A Journey of Reconciliation

Written by Monique Gray Smith.
Published in 2017 by Orca Book Publishers.

Canada’s relationship with its Indigenous people has suffered as a result of both the residential school system and the lack of understanding of the historical and current impact of those schools. Healing and repairing that relationship requires education, awareness and increased understanding of the legacy and the impacts still being felt by survivors and their families. Guided by acclaimed Indigenous author Monique Gray Smith, readers will learn about the lives of Survivors and listen to allies who are putting the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into action.

I’m still currently reading this book and I can’t put it down! This book is so heartwarming and touching because it’s about indigenous people and how they were taken from their homes. I have an uncle and he’s indigenous and he was taken from his home when he was very little. So now I can understand his life struggles when he was little and now. I totally recommend this book!

I loved this book with my whole heart and it made my hurt to learn what people had to go through. I didn’t want to put it down so far it is my favourite out of them all. I really suggest this book. It is so heartwarming to see how strong these people are and I think everyone could learn something from this book and the people in it. This book hit me in the heart and I think it actually helped me live my life better. It was a bittersweet book because I could never imagine what they went through but It is amazing that they are so strong. I love this book so I give it a 100000000000000000000000000000000o00000000000000000000000000000000000/10
