Rewilding: Giving Nature a Second Chance

Written by Jane Drake and Ann Love.
Published in 2017 by Annick Press.

Rewilding is an important environmental movement to restore habitats to their natural state in order to support native species and make room for animals to move freely. In this comprehensive look at rewilding, the authors present examples from around the world where endangered animals have been rehabilitated and returned to their natural habitats. From pandas and peregrine falcons to jaguars and wolves, the story of these animals testifies to the fact that with good management, the extinction of species can be avoided. This book also relates how cities have begun to restore nature by planting everything from tiny rooftop gardens to huge parks on disused land. Written for 9 to 12-year olds, this book serves as a great resource for projects as well as a fascinating book to read or browse.

Rewilding is a non-fiction book about how people are trying to get nature back to what it was before humans trashed it. I would rate it 5 stars because I like this book. Now I feel some faith in us getting keystone species and other things back, and this book is telling us how we are doing it. Also I feel that, if we set our minds to it, we can do this. I feel sympathy for lots of animals and think we should give them their lives, and habitat back. It’s really bad what we’ve done to them.

Rewilding is all about animals. It explains what rewilding is and also how we should ‘rewild’. The book mainly is focused on human errors and why we shouldn’t have done what we have done. Part of the book will explain why we, as humans are taking over a little too much. Other things it explains is when we should stop always bringing animals close to their extinction. We should be more careful.
I like the book. I think it explains the problem very well and clearly. The reason I think that is because I noticed after reading the book, my image of the world had changed (in a good way). I think the number of hunters is a little too much (no offense to anybody). The reason is that the animal population is a little bit too low (even though we were born with the intelligence to hunt).
I would definitely recommend this book to anybody. It explains everything very clearly. It broadens your knowledge and I learned a lot more about the different types of animals. It also underlines the issues (not literally). Probably the best thing is that it not only underlines issues (like I said, not literally), but it also explains how to fix them.

I really liked this book because it taught me a lot about different animals. I learned how there was a question whether there should be money spent on animals that could be naturally rewilded or to spend the money on other animals that couldn’t go back into the wild naturally. I think they should spend the money on the animals that can be rewilded naturally because I think it is better if they are in nature than not. I think animals are not as happy when they are not in nature.
