Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess

Written by Shari Green.
Published in 2017 by Pajama Press.

Sixth grade is coming to an end, and so is life as Macy McMillan knows it. Already a For Sale sign mars the front lawn of her beloved house. Soon her mother will upend their little family, adding an unwelcome stepfather and pesky six-year-old twin stepsisters. To add insult to injury, what is Macy s final sixth grade assignment? A genealogy project. Well, she’ll put it off―just like those wedding centerpieces she’s supposed to be making.

Shari Green, author of Root Beer Candy and Other Miracles, writes free verse with the lightest touch, spinning Macy out of her old story and into a new one full of warmth and promise for the future.

I liked this book because e.x it was Christmas and the poem was shaped like a Christmas tree and also I have one dislike was that they talked so much that I could not really understand the story on some pages.

  2. TMS

I like this book because it was very complex, the protagonist deals with a lot of emotions and learns how to love someone new. I would definitely recommend this book to any person of any age.

  3. Taber Mennonite School

I really loved this book. It is unique because it is from a deaf persons’ perspective. Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess is really interesting because you can see what deaf people can understand. I rate it a 5/5 stars! Loved it!

    SPOILER ALERT!
I really enjoyed reading this book. When Macy runs into problems she realizes change can be good. I think it is interesting that Macy is deaf and can still hear people talking sometimes and that most people know sign language except for Iris. I also think it is interesting that Macy developed a relationship with Iris while they can not really communicate.

I really enjoyed this book. The playful poetry style is very intriguing and amusing. The plot is very enjoyable and a must read by my standards. It has a great moral and amazing character development, I very much enjoyed the book and I suggest it to all readers looking for a goofy but emotional novel.

  6. Wildwood school

This book was great. It shows the prespective of a deaf eleven year old girl who struggles about her friend not talking to her and a stepdad. i thought this book would be good for any 8+ year olds.

  7. Hillhurst Elementary School

I would recommend this book for kids who know how to read and understand stanzas. The book plot is very enjoyable and interesting because of the use of stanzas. The author used conflict to make intense moments and then turn back into the average storyline again. There are ups and downs in the story which gives it a smooth storyline of events.

Macy McMillan and The Rainbow Goddess

The book Macy McMillan and The Rainbow Goddess, written by Shari Green and published by Pajama Press to me, is a fantastic book! The book has a very interesting storyline with Macy being deaf and struggling through her life with her mom getting married, moving, and losing her best friend. Now she’s stuck with her old lady neighbour that doesn’t even know sign language, what good will she do! In my opinion, I believe everybody should get a chance to read this book! If I were to rate this book I would give it a 4.5 star because I feel like at the beginning the might have been able to be a little more specific in saying that Macy is deaf because I couldn’t tell if she was deaf or mute. It’s a book that I will love for the rest of my life!

Macy Mcmillan and the Rainbow Goddess
Macy and Olivia had been best friends ever since Macy went to Hamiliton Elementary School. One day, the teacher assigned a family tree project, and Olivia made a joke about Macy’s father. Now the two girls are not signing to each other, and Macy’s mother is getting married and selling the house. Then when she meets Iris, the Rainbow goddess, everything starts to change.

I would suggest ‘Macy Mcmillan and the Rainbow Goddess’ to you because the author told a great story, and it can always remind you that you can find comfort in the least expected ways.
